Hi Families! We hope you had a nice long weekend and stayed warm. We didn’t have a lot of time together today, with the delayed start, but we made the most of it! Thank you all so very much for the sweets, treats, cards, and surprises your little ones showered us with for Valentine’s Day. We had such a fun party. Thank you to everyone who helped to make the day so special.
Here’s what’s happening this week:
Special Events:
Wednesday: 8:30 Talent Show (4th and 5th Graders will Perform)
Thursday: Chinese New Year Parade - 8:30
Blake Leeper to Speak for Black History Month - 2:00
Math: We have finished unit 7 in math and will review and assess this week. We will begin Unit 8 next week.
Reading Workshop: We are continuing to learn about the characteristics of a good mystery. Our read aloud is Nancy Drew and the Clue Crew. We are documenting the mystery, the suspects, and the clues. Students are also reading in a mystery series with their partners.
Writing Workshop: Most students are completing revisions on their Native American non-fiction pieces. We look forward to sharing these with you at conferences.
We have just kicked off our next writing unit: Persuasive Reviews. We began, as persuasive reviewers do, by generating lists of things we like and things we dislike. We will talk this week about how strong writers organize a persuasive review like a triple stuffed Oreo - starting and ending with an opinion (stated differently, of course) and filled with at least three reasons and examples.
O - opinion
R- Reason (s)
E - Examples (to elaborate on reasons)
O - Opinion (re-stated)
Homework for the Week:
Math:
· Unit 7 Review (Complete toward the beginning of the week to prepare for our test. Do not turn it in.)
· Practice X 7 Facts (quiz 2/26)
· No Homelinks this week
Reading:
· Read often (and sometimes aloud!)
· No log this week
Writing:
· Opinion Writing Page (Uniforms)
o Due Monday
