Hi Families,
We are so proud of how well all of the third graders did with their Living Museum speeches. This was a great introduction to biography reading, note taking, compiling information from various souses, writing a speech, and giving a presentation. We are working on uploading all of the photos and video footage to our website. Thank you for being patient. We have had some internet trouble at school, so the larger downloads have been a challenge. We will continue to work on it, and we will let you know when we have them all up for you to enjoy.
Here’s what’s going on in our class this week:
We began unit ten in math this week. This unit is a review unit that covers a variety of strands. This week we will focus on measurement of distance, weight and volume. We will also work on fractions in measurement. Unit nine assessments will come home at the end of the week. Please sign and return them after you have the opportunity to look over them with your child.
Social Studies this week will center on goods and services as well as supply and demand. We will explore places we experience these economic situations in our day-to-day lives - even in the cafeteria! We will also continue to earn money for doing our class jobs, pay our desk and chair rent, and pay our fines for responsibilities left undone.
Reading and Writing Workshop will center on persuasive writing, free writing, and reading our choice of “Just Right” books. We will also begin our end of the year reading assessments. If your child enjoyed the biographies, I highly recommend the “Who Was…” series. They are perfect for third graders, and each book contains a nice balance of facts/details and stories of the character’s life. Our grammar focus this week is complex sentences, coordinating conjunctions, and knowing when a sentence is too long (run ons). Our Word Study emphasis is reviewing our suffix rules and compound words.
