The highlight of our week last week was Mercado. Mercado was the culmination of a most exciting outreach project and Spanish study of fruits, vegetables, and money. Be sure to have your child tell you all about how they prepared for the market, how it worked, and how they worked in inGen Studio to create currency - even making a 3D print of the currency chosen! Thank you to all of you for contributing food for the project, and thank you to our AMAZING Spanish teachers and inGen teachers for making it happen. The best part was having the kids help deliver the fruits and vegetables to the volunteers from The Garden who came to collect the fresh food to help others.
Our Plans for the Week Ahead:
We will finish up Unit 4 in math this week, and we will be taking the assessment on Tuesday and Wednesday. We will start our next multiplication review this week as well. We have had fun solving problems with area and perimeter in this unit, and we are making connections between the area of rectangles and multiplication.
Please have your child bring in any printouts or pictures cut out of magazines that he or she may choose to bring in for his or her social studies project. We will finish our work on these regions this week. We will also take our midwest region quiz on Thursday, 11/20.
This week we will finish our character development study in reading workshop. I am so proud of how hard the students have been working in these series book clubs. Our group discussions have grown far more complex over the past few weeks. Some children will continue to read in the series they have been moving through, and others will choose to move on to other books at this time.
Last week we reiterated the appropriate punctuation of dialogue. This is difficult, but many students are beginning to do it naturally. In addition, we learned when and how to begin a new paragraph by indenting.
We will finish, edit, and publish our final realistic piece this week. The stories are so much fun to read! The sentence structure and craft built into these pieces as well as the character development is beautiful!
We are looking forward to conferencing with you on Thursday or Friday. If you traded times, please be sure to let us know. Thanks so much.
Have a great week!
Love,
Meadow & Anna
