Many thanks to everyone for their patience with our update. I believe I solved the issue. It may come as no surprise that it was user error... We are in good shape now! It's a good thing too, because we have so much to share with you.
Each of you should be so very proud of your little one. I have cried (happy tears) more than once these past two weeks watching our class work hard to raise awareness and funds for the Read-a-Thon and for Families First. The highlight of the project was the shopping trip to Target where each small group shopped for a child using his or her wish list and a budget. A great deal of thought went into how to spend the money to best meet the needs and wishes for each child sponsored. Thank you so much to all of you for helping drive, shop, wrap gifts, for sending donuts, and helping raise money for the project.
Here is more of what is going on in our room:
Reading Workshop: Some students are continuing to follow a character they got to know in our book club study. Others are reading just right books that interest them. Our next reading study will focus on non fiction. This is always a favorite for the children, and we will tie it in closely with our Native American unit in Social Studies - also coming up!
Writing Workshop: NonFiction is our current focus in writing. Students will choose areas that interest them to research and write about. We will also cross into Social Studies by writing about the various Native American groups we will study. Also in writing, please enjoy our videos of the authors reading their realistic fiction pieces. They are WONDERFUL. If you don't see your little one, look again later this week. We are adding a few each day.
Math: The children are coming right along with learning their multiplication facts! Continue to practice those 3s. We will move to the 5s next. We have been working in Unit Five with "Very Large Numbers" recently. Practice at home by having your child place commas in a series of numbers and read the large number aloud. We will also explore decimals, estimates and polygons in the next few lessons.
Social Studies: As I mentioned above, we will soon begin learning about the Native American groups of our country. I mentioned to some of you that we might have a "show" for you with our region projects. The timing of this happening before Christmas is not working out. It's crazy that we only have twelve more days of school. We will record them and post them on our website for you to enjoy. Please know that you are ALWAYS welcome in our classroom. If you just want to come visit, shoot us an email. We would love to have you anytime.
Have a wonderful week!
Meadow & Anna
