Hi Families,
We have missed our class this crazy "snowy" few days, but we enjoyed conferencing with you, and we look forward to continuing to learn. It's a short week this week, but we have a lot to do, so we will be busy! Happy birthday this week to both Avery and Alex!
Here is what is going on in class this week:
Math:
We will continue our study of fractions in unit eight of Everyday Math. These next few days we will make line posters for fractions, compare fractions, and find equivalant fractions.
Social Studies:
Many of the students have finished their non-fiction Native American books. Those who are not yet finished, will wrap up soon. Look for these treasures to come home this week. In addition to the books (Treasures!) please notice the notes and checklists included in the red folders. The children worked very hard, and they have learned how to be strong note takers. We are very proud of them!
We will also spend a bit of time, this week, traveling back in time to 1776 and learn about the Declaration of Independence. What was it? Why was it written? Who wrote it, and where did they write it?
Reading Workshop:
We will continue reading mysteries this week. We are watching and listening closely for clues and trying to put our detective skills to work to solve the case. The children are taking notes in their readers' notebooks as they read - just like real detectives!
Writing Workshop:
Our study of persuasive review writing continues as we learn to weave our opinions into our pieces. Students have already completed at least one piece in the writer's notebook, and many are working on additional reviews!
Commas, verb agreement, and quotation marks have been our most recent grammar focuses. We have completed our e-drop study in Word Study, and we have been looking at other ways to add suffixes to words.
Homework for the Week:
Reading:
Read - No Log
Writing & Social Studies:
Begin work on the grandparent interview/paragraph (sent home in folder). This is due on March 23. You will need to complete one paragraph after interviewing a grandparent. You will also need to turn in two pictures, one of you with the person you interview, and another of the person in history that was discussed.
Review Word Wall Words for a quiz on Thursday.
Math:
We will have our X7 quiz on Thursday of this week (since it was snowed out last week).
Monday: Homelink 8.3 (make up lesson from last week)
Tuesday: Homelink 8.4
Wednesday: Homelink 8.5
Have a WONDERFUL spring break! If you have a chance, please have your child send a postcard from vacation (or STAYcation) to our class:
