Hi Families,
Happy Spring! We are excited about all of the upcoming events this trimester. Hopefully you received the list of important events coming up. Also, please check the right side of our web page for any changes and announcements. Most importantly, we want to make sure each child has a special visitor for Mothers' Day and our Living Museum. If your child is unable to have a guest for either of these events, please be sure to let us know. Thank you.
Here is what is going on in our class:
Math:
We finished unit eight in Everyday Math last week and took our assessment. This week we will have the reengagement for the Open Response (fractions and money) and begin unit nine. Unit nine's lessons, this week, focus on multiplication and division with multiples of 10s, 100s, and 1000s. We will also practice mental math strategies with multiplication, explore arrays, area and fractions, and learn the algorithm for multiplication.
Social Studies:
After learning about our three branches of government we are now exploring the way a bill becomes a law. We will also compare the House and the Senate and learn about the election process in our country.
Reading & Writing Workshop:
Please be sure to swing by our hall bulletin boards sometime soon. Here you will find the final opinion pieces illustrated by our class. The class did a great job using the structure of an opinion piece and supported their opinions with reasons and examples.
In addition to enhancing our opinion pieces to persuade readers, we are thinking of ways we can write about ourselves for our upcoming chapel service. We are thinking of insecurities we have (or used to have) and writing about them. Our chapel will focus on the fact that we are all special because God made us all.
Our grammar focus is editing - specifically related to quotation marks, commas in a series, and verbs in past, present, and future tense. Our spelling focus, this week, is on unusual past tense verbs.
Homework for the Week:
Reading:
Read and Log
Writing:
Comma and Apostrophe Page (due Monday)
Word Wall Quiz on Friday
Math:
Practice X 8s (quiz Friday)
Sumdog Quiz - Take it on the site by MONDAY.
Homelinks -
9.1 - Tuesday
9.2 - Wednesday
9.3 - Thursday
9.4 - Friday (due Monday)
Have a fantastic week!
Love,
Meadow & Anna
