It was so great to see all the smiling (though sleepy) faces this morning. It sounds like everyone had lots of fun last week whether they went on a trip or stayed right here in Atlanta. Thank you to those who had a chance to send a post card to school. We already received a few. It's fun to read about the places our friends visit.
Believe it or not, we only have forty-five more school days left. Where did this year go? We have lots of fun and learning ahead, and we plan to pack to use those fantastic forty-five wisely. As always, thank you for all you do and for all of your support. See below for what's going on in our class this week.
Social Studies:
We continue with our social studies unit, focusing on United States government. Most recently, we have discussed The Declaration of Independence and The Constitution. We have also learned about the settlers who came to America from Europe - the colonists.
This week we will learn more about the three branches of government: Judicial Branch, Legislative Branch, and Executive Branch. Next we will move on to learn about leaders in these branches.
Math:
This week we will complete unit eight in math. We will have our assessment at the end of the week, but in the meantime we will learn more about comparing fractions and mixed numerals. We will also continue to review multiplication, addition, subtraction, and word problems.
Writing Workshop:
The students have had fun putting one of their opinion pieces into a Word document. They are noticing more spelling and grammar "opportunities" as they do this and catching more mistakes. We have been impressed at how proficient many of the children are with their typing skills! We will publish and hang our final pieces soon.
Reading Workshop:
We are beginning to wrap up our mystery study. Students have all now read at least two mystery books in a series with a partner and made predictions using clues they read.
Homework for the Week:
Reading and Math Log
Writing:
Grandparent Survey & Paragraph (due Monday)
Math:
Practice X8s - Quiz 3/27
Monday: Homelink 8.6
Tuesday: Homelink 8.7
Wednesday: Homelink 8.8
Math Review (optional - to be kept at home)
Study Word Wall Words - Quiz 3/27
