Happy Groundhog Day Families!
We hope that you are having a great groundhog day and that General Beauregard is more accurate with his prediction than Punxsutawney Phil. Here is what is going on this week:
Math: We will continue with Unit 7 in Everyday Math. This unit focuses on a variety of multiplication and division strategies. In addition, please continue to practice multiplication facts at home. We will also take our mid-year review assessment in math this year. We will share these with you at our upcoming conferences.
Reading & Writing Workshop: We will wrap up our non-fiction units of study this week. Students have learned a variety of strategies for organizing their own non-fiction pieces and are reading and writing their own books on Native Americans. Some students chose to write about one particular region with sections on tribes, clothing, gender roles, customs, and more. Other children chose to take one of these topics (gender roles, clothing, etc.) and write about each region’s way of life as it relates to the topic they chose. We are very proud of how hard the children have been working.
Social Studies: As we wrap up our study of Native Americans, we will jump into our next unit of study - Government! This will be especially exciting as we head to our state capital on Monday to see where the magic in Georgia happens!
In addition to what is mentioned above, we are practicing the “E-Drop” rule in word study. We are also working, in writing conferences, on using conjunctions to write strong compound sentences.
Here is a message from Señora Fonseca:
