Happy birthday to Charlie P. and Christian last week. Thank you for the delicious birthday treats. We enjoyed them. Other exciting news from last week includes our trip to the Upper School Fine Arts building to see our wood images being cut out. We are having such fun with our Charlotte's Web Folk Art project. We have been creating character trait visuals using Canva in the computer lab. Soon we will have a new display in the hall for all to enjoy!
Hopefully you read the Read-a-Thon information that came home last week. This is a wonderful outreach opportunity for the third grade. The students raise money by reading two mornings before Thanksgiving. They asked loved ones to support them by making donations (either by the minute or a flat rate). The money they raise is then divided up between needy families registered with the Families First program. The children will budget for wish list items for the children, shop for the items on our field trip to Target, then wrap the gifts to be delivered to the families. Thank you for helping us teach our children to help those in need. I find this to be one of the greatest opportunities the students have this year.
Most of the students did very well on their first ever multiplication fast fact assessment. Keep practicing those 0's and 1's. This week we will continue working in unit four. This includes multiplication and division fact families, multiplication baseball, exploring arrays, estimating distances with a map scale and a fun coin toss activity to practice probability!
Math Homework:
The Fast Fact X Pages for the 2s will come home today. We will have our fast fact test on Monday.
Homelinks for this week include:
Monday: 4.5
Tuesday: 4.6
Wednesday: 4.7
Thursday: 4.8
Friday: 4.9 (due Mon.)
In reading workshop we are continuing our study of character and plot development while working on our comprehension and attention to detail. We are also working with students individually to assess them.
Reading Homework:
Continue to read and log at least four times a week. Remember to have at least 120 minutes each week.
We are working hard in writing workshop to elaborate in our realistic fiction pieces. We are writing and rewriting the various parts of our story while weaving in character thoughts, dialogue, action, and setting clues.
Writing Homework:
Character traits and evidence page
Our social studies regions projects are coming along. This week is a good time to start bringing in small (lightweight) items to add to the visuals. The only rule is that it must be lightweight and not valuable.
Social Studies Homework:
Continue to study Midwest States. We will have a quiz on Friday, November 21.
Midwest States: Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, and North Dakota
Have a great week!
