Hi Families,
Here’s what’s happening this week:
Progress reports are coming home in the next couple of weeks. This is one of the many ways we like to let parents know what is happening in the classroom - particularly if a child is struggling in a particular area. Progress reports are also used, at times, to share with parents the recent progress that a child may be making. These reports are not written each term for each student. They are used if the teachers feel that they need to share a little more information with parents than the weekly papers and regular communications that comes home. Progress reports are not something to afraid of or angry over. They are a communication tools that help us all stay on the same page between grading periods. As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any concerns or questions regarding your child’s learning. We are here to help your little ones thrive and want to be transparent while doing so.
Math: In math we continue our study of geometry. We are learning about regular and irregular polygons. We will be drawing an measuring angles, and we will also study symmetry.
If you are looking for more fun math practice apps, you may want to try Slide Math. Mrs. Amabile introduced these fun math practice games to us. They can be played with one to four players and are a great way to practice basic skills. If you try it out, remember to write it on your log!
Social Studies: Each group has completed note taking for one region of Native American tribes. We will work our way through all five tribal regions over the next several weeks, working on some note taking skills together as a whole class. We have learned some very exciting new facts about Native Americans. Ask your child to tell you what the tribes in the southwest did if a child misbehaved!
Reading and Writing Workshops: Our non-fiction study continues with our social studies unit. We are also reading a variety of non-fiction materials. This week we will continue to work on finding the main idea of what we read. Our grammar focus is on subject and predicate - both identifying them as well as making sure we have them in all of our sentences.
Word Study: After a review of vowel patterns in one-syllable words, we will begin our inflected ending study by adding -ing to words with VC and VCC patterns. By the end of the week, we should all know the 1-1-1 rule of when to double the consonant before adding an ending!
